During the excavation,
cavities were found with
human bones in them.
When the person died, the
body became completely
encased in ash.  Later the
body decomposed, leaving
only the bones in a cavity.
When these cavities were
discovered, they could be
pumped full of plaster and
left to thoroughly dry.  The
resulting casts give us
information about the
deceased, including the
position at death.  This gave
clues about how the person
died.
A few of the many relics
discovered during the
excavation of the town.
